Shakira Did Not Plagiarise Waka Waka

The Cameroonian music group, Zangalewa, has declared that famous and talented Colombian singer, Shakira, did not plagiarise their 1986 song of the year, "Waka Waka". The group made that precision during a press conference that held in Douala, last May 11 at the French Cultural Centre. The press conference was aimed at putting an end to current rumours that it has dragged Shakira to court for plagiarism.

"We cannot talk of plagiarism, if not we would have complained", Jean Paul Ze Bella, the Zangalewa Orchestra chief, told pressmen in the economic capital. According to the former gendarmerie Warrant Officer, the fact that the Colombian singer has reproduced a song belonging to them does not mean it is plagiarism. He said, "It is a simple revival of the song by the artist".

On the other hand, he thanked Shakira for reviving their song, and the International Federation of Football Association ,FIFA, for choosing the title as the official song for 2010 World Cup in South Africa. The panellists who were principally members of the group, notably Jean Paul Ze Bella, Guy Dooh, Stéphane Tchakam, and Didier Edo, said the song Waka Waka, interpreted by Shakira, shall be produced by Sony Music Entertainment, authorised distributor of the album entitled "Listen up! The official 2010 Fifa World Cup Album".
